Hemida is a senior lecturer and the Head of Research at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Birmingham. He is also the director of the MRes in Railway System and Integration. He has a PhD in the field of crosswind flow around ground vehicles and his research interests range from fundamental thermofluids and CFD (LES, and, DES) to applied computational wind engineering. He has more than fifteen years of working experience in both academia and industry running research projects that involve steady and unsteady simulations of single and multiphase flows, with special emphases on wind engineering and train aerodynamics.

Prof Yufeng Yao (BEng, MSc, PhD, FRAeS, AFAIAA, MASME) is currently Professor in Aerospace Engineering at University of the West of England (UWE). At UWE, He has established and now head Engineering Modelling and Simulation research group which explores complex engineering design, analysis and control relevant issues occurred in practical engineering systems. Prof Yao is also a visiting Professor at Zhejiang University, China. Prof Yao’s research interest includes direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large-eddy simulations (LES) of complex geometry turbulent flows, transitional flow in shock/boundary-layer interactions and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) modelling of single- and multi-phase flows and heat transfer for industrial applications such as turbo-machinery, automotive and built environment. Prof Yao is member of UK Turbulence Consortia sponsored by EPSRC to tackle fundamental turbulent flow problems using high-fidelity numerical methods such as DNS/LES using HPC facilities.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Farouk AbdelGawad has completed his PhD at the age of 30 years from Zagazig University (Egypt) and Virginia Tech (USA). He is a professor of computational fluid mechanics. He has published more than 70 papers in reputed journals and conferences. He is serving as an editorial board member of repute for many international journals, and lead guest editor, special issue, AJAE, AJEE. He is fellow IEF, assoc. fellow AIAA, member ASME, ACS, SIAM, AAAS, and biographee, Marquis Who is Who, IBC, ABI. He is general conference coordinator, ICFDP8, ICFDP9, ICFD10, ICFD11.

Dr. Chamorro is assistant professor in the department of Mechanical Science and Engineering in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is affiliated in the departments of Aerospace Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. He received a PhD from the University of Minnesota. Professor Chamorro has published over thirty peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including Nature Comm, J Fluid Mech, Phys Fluids, and J Turbul. He is serving as Associate Editor of the Journal of Energy Engineering, and as Academic Editor and member of the Editorial Board of the journal Energies. He leads the Renewable Energy and Turbulent Environment group, and has developed a comprehensive, versatile and robust experimental approach that combines a set of state-of-the-art experimental techniques, including planar and 3D particle image velocimetry, computer vision, and 3D particle tracking velocimetry. This experimental framework allows him to study fluid dynamics-related problems from Eulerian and Lagrangian frames of reference.

Dr Zhong is a Reader and the head of the aerospace research theme at School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, Manchester University. She received her PhD from Cambridge University in 1994. Prior to joining Manchester as a lecturer in 1997, she has worked as a research associate at Oxford University for three years. Dr Zhong’s research is primarily concerned with shear flows with emphasis on boundary layer laminar-to-turbulent transition, flow control and fluid mixing. Through carefully designed experiments and innovative use of advanced flow measurement techniques, her research aims at understanding some of the fundamental fluid physics, which underpins the development of more efficient fluid and transportation systems.

Dr. Mikhail Shashkov has completed his PhD at the age of 25 years from Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Moscow (Russia) and obtained Doctor of Science degree from Moscow State University at the age of 37. In 1994 he has moved to US. He is Scientist 5 and Fellow at X-Computational Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory and also SAIM Fellow. He is expert in numerical methods for high-speed multi-material flows. He has published more than 200 papers and associate editor of SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis.

Professor Shuisheng He is Chair in Thermofluids in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of IMechE and member of UK Turbulence Consortium. Previously, he was Thermal Hydraulic Analyst at British Energy, Lecturer at Robert Gordon University and Senior Lecturer/Reader at Aberdeen University.

Shuisheng’s research interests include turbulence and modelling, unsteady flow and transition, and nuclear thermal hydraulics. In particular, his recent fundamental research focuses on two non-equilibrium turbulent flows, namely unsteady turbulent flow (where the bulk velocity varies with time) and buoyancy-influenced flow, combining experimental investigations with computational studies using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) & direct numerical simulation (DNS).

Dr. Jin Xuan is an Assistant Professor and leads the Advanced Reaction Engineering group in Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. He obtained his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 2011. He was a visiting researcher in The University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong during 2011-2014. Dr. Xuan’s research interests include microfluidics, micro-reactors process intensification and their applications in CO2 utilization, fuel cells, and renewable energy. He has published 1 edited book, 3 book chapters, 47 journal papers and 40+ conference papers (a number of which in the list of ‘Top 25 Hottest Articles’ and ‘Most Accessed Articles‘), filed 12 patents, and delivered 6 invited/keynote speeches in conference. He is Specialty Associate Editor of Frontiers in Environmental Science, an Editorial Board Member of Springer Plus and was a Guest Editor of Micro and Nano-systems.

Ira Didenkulova completed two PhD degrees: in Fluid Mechanics, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (2006) and in Civil Engineering, Tallinn University of Technology (2008). In 2013 she defended Doctor of Science Degree in Oceanography in P.P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Moscow. She has published more than 70 papers in reputed journals. I.Didenkulova was awarded Plinius Medal by EGU (2010) and L'Oreal-UNESCO fellowship "For Women in Science" (2014). Dr. Eng. JM Bergada received his PhD from University Politechnic of Catalunya (UPC) (1996), Barcelona, Spain. His dissertation involved CFD flow simulation inside a servovalve and acoustic servovalve vibrations linked with flow instabilities. From 1996 to 2001 he developed several research projects at the Textile Research Institute (UPC). During the period 2000-2010 his research focused on CFD simulations and mathematical development of flow in relieve valves and axial piston pumps, this research being developed in collaboration with Prof. John Watton at Cardiff University UK. Several measurement test rigs were co-designed and build at Cardiff University to validate the theoretical results. From 2011 to 2014, his research was based in a collaboration with TU-Berlin, and the research focused on performance evaluation of fluidic amplifiers, mathematical study of vortexes generated below airplane wings nearby the ground, and dynamic frequency and amplitude variations of fluid placed inside small pipes used in turbulent flow measurements. From January 1990 until the present, he has always been working in the Fluid Mechanics department at ETSEIAT-UPC. During this period he has been in charge of three main subjects, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Power and Hydraulic Machinery. He has over 70 papers published in international Journals and national and International conferences. He has recently written a book on Fluid Mechanics and one on Fluid Power, several solved problems books with other co-authors, related with hydraulic machinery and Fluid Power, are also to be considered.

Dr Mehdi Nazarinia is an assistant professor of Fluid Mechanics and Renewable Energy at Heriot-Watt University (HWU), Dubai. He is specialised in experimental fluid dynamics and aerodynamics of heavy vehicles in particular. He has finished his PhD in Fluid Mechanics in 2010 at Monash University, Australia. He was working in Monash Wind Tunnel and as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Melbourne before joining HWU. He also has MSc and BSc in Aerospace Engineering. For the past four years since he joined HWU he has started carrying out researches on renewable energy and in particular solar energy harness through dual-axis solar collectors. At the moment he is the Mechanical Engineering programme coordinator and is involved in various industrial projects in the UAE in the field of Solar Energy. He has published in more than 25 reputable journals so far.

Alexander Sergeyev received his PhD at the age of 30 years from the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering, St.-Petersburg. At the age of 43 he received the highest scientific Degree (qualification exists in Russian science) in mechanics of solids from the same institute. Now he is a leading researcher of the Hydroelasticity laboratory of the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering, St.-Petersburg. He had made an applied mathematical description for a chain-like model of a long flexible riser, created the model to study the train derailment process. Also he was hired to develop mathematical models for the lift of the submarine <>. His hobby is studying the analytical dynamics of jet devices and other open mechanical systems.

Dr. Ahmed Amine Hachicha is Assistant professor in Sustainable and renewable energy engineering department His main research interests include: numerical simulation of fluid dynamic and heat transfer phenomena, concentrated solar power applications and design of solar energy systems. His is currently working on the design and modelling of direct steam generation process using parabolic trough solar collector as well as on the design and modelling of PV hybrid cooling system.
